Be careful not to forget the covenant of the Lord your God that he made with you. Deuteronomy 4:23
God's covenant stands in sharp contrast to worldly culture. Worldly culture says, "There are many religions. To each his own." God's covenant says, "The Lord our God, the Lord is one."
Worldly culture says, "Religion is nice at weddings, funerals, and other ritual events, but don't get too excited about God." God's covenant says, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength."
Worldly culture says, "Follow cutting-edge thinkers, not biblical commands. Above all, don't push faith on your children. Let them choose their own beliefs and values as they watch television at home, listen to radio on the road, party with friends before they lie down, and go to a secular school when they get up." God's covenant says, "These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up."
Worldly culture says, "Do as you please with your hands. Think what you like with your head. Keep religion private. Don't let it show in your home or in society." God's covenant says, "Tie [biblical truths] as symbols on your hands and on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates."
Is your life patterned on worldly culture or God's covenant?
PRAYER--Lord, make us covenant keepers. Help us worship you alone and love you with our whole being. Shape me, my family, and this world by your Word, for Jesus' sake. Amen.
