"Teacher, I brought you my son." Mark 9:17
People were bringing babies to Jesus. Luke 18:15
Parents can bring their children to Jesus, even if the children can't understand what's happening and can't make their own decision. A demon-possessed boy couldn't make a decision for Christ, but the boy's father brought him to Jesus, and Christ made a decision for the boy. A demon-possessed girl didn't seek Jesus, but her mother did, and the Lord saved the daughter from the demon (Matthew 15:21-28). Babies can't speak or figure out doctrines, but when parents brought babies to Jesus, the Lord declared, "The kingdom of God belongs to such as these."
The church should be like Jesus, but sometimes it's not. When a father brought his demon-possessed son, the disciples lacked prayer power and got into an argument instead of helping the boy. When a mother brought her demon-possessed girl, the disciples shooed her away. When parents brought babies, the disciples tried to stop them. Church leaders today, like the disciples long ago, may block parents who believe in Jesus and bring their children to the Lord. They have more arguments than prayer power, or think adults matter more than little kids, or insist that believers' babies can't be blessed and welcomed into God's kingdom through baptism.
We pastors and leaders may fail, but Jesus never fails. When believing parents bring their children to Jesus, the Lord welcomes them, saves them from evil powers, blesses them, and declares them part of his kingdom.
PRAYER--Lord Jesus, we bring our children to you. Rescue and defend them from Satan's power. Make them at home in your kingdom. Make us powerful in prayer on their behalf. Amen.
