Praise him, all his angels praise him, all his heavenly hosts. Psalm 148:2
Was there ever life on Mars? Do aliens from other worlds ever visit earth? Many people wonder about these things. Even some scientists look for signals from space.
We may wonder if physical life exists anywhere besides earth, but we can be sure that humans are not the only form of intelligent life. The Creator has made millions of intelligent spirit beings. They don't need spaceships to travel or transmitters to communicate. They're not subject to physical laws; scientific instruments can't detect them. But Scripture does what science can't: it shows the reality of angels, countless beings of amazing intelligence and power.
What do angels do? Their favorite and foremost work is to praise the Lord. Even if not a single human ever worshiped God or believed in Jesus, the Lord would still have millions of splendid angels who never stop praising him. It's humbling to know this. It's also thrilling to know that whenever we worship God, we join a chorus of angels and creatures of every kind.
Another task of angels is to battle God's enemies and guard God's people. Our Father protects each of us under his own wings, but one way he does that is to command his winged warriors to watch over us (Psalm 91:4,11). The angels protect us for as long as God wants us to live on earth, and when it is our time to die, the angels carry us to heaven (Luke 16:22). There we will join the angels and all creation in praising God forever.
PRAYER--Creator of angels, we praise your name with all your creatures in earth and heaven. Thank you, Father, that you send your angels to help us and that you care for us personally. Amen.
